Just waiting for part two…. Reminding Confederate apologists about the facts of the civil war, part 1 …and you could have included this: ” In case there was any lingering doubt about what the real issue was, Confederate Vice-President Alexander Stevens clearly laid it out in his inaugural address on March 21, 1861. The Founders had gotten their fundamental assumptions wrong, Stevens contended: “They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the government built upon it fell when the ‘storm came and the wind blew.’ Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery-subordination to the superior race-is his natural and normal condition.” http://www.ledgersentinel.com/article.asp?a=9566
